Local reggae maven Packy Malley has hosted the area’s premier annual reggae event, the Midwest Reggae Fest, since 1992. He’s just announced the dates and lineup for the 19th annual event, taking place August 13-15 at Nelson Ledges Quarry Park.
Headliners include Third World, Michael Rose, Luciano, Pato Banton, the Skatalites and Dread Zeppelin, along with local favorites like Carlos Jones and the P.L.U.S. Band, Jah Messenger, Tropidelic and the Prayer Warriors.
Reggae historian Roger Steffens will also be back with another presentation.
Over the years, Malley has expanded the fest from a locally focused, one-day event to a show that’s now one of the largest in the country and a destination event for fans.
The rural Nelson Ledges site offers camping, swimming and multiple areas for jams, drum circles and informal gatherings.
Tickets go on sale Friday, and only 4,000 will be available. They’re $95 for the weekend; $75 for Saturday and Sunday; $50 for Sunday.
But the first 500 tickets sold will get $20 off the price of the ticket. —Anastasia Pantsios
