THE ONE Love reggae festival starts on Friday, August 6, in Hainault Forest Country Park.

The line-up includes Bob Marley's son, Julian alongside the likes of Luciano, Benjamin Zephaniah, Don Letts, Tippa Irie, David Rodigan, Trojan Sound System and many more.

Friday is Jamaican Independence Day and marks 32 years since Bob Marley's historic One Love Peace Concert that took place against a backdrop of major civil unrest in the country.

From 1976, there had been serious civil unrest in Jamaica between supporters of Prime Minister Michael Manley and those of opposition leader Edward Seaga.

The political culture became violent. Gunmen hired by both parties were fighting on the streets and assassinating their rivals. The situation deteriorated and a civil war looked imminent.

In 1978 Marley organised the One Love Peace Concert. During the song Jamming, he called both political opponents on stage and forced them to shake hands.

This historic and exciting moment was a sea change and stopped the civil unrest.

This weekend all that will be remembered at Hainault Forest Country Park, Foxburrows Road, Hainault.

The festival kicks off on Friday at 5pm and includes performances from Natty, David Rodigan, Trojan Sound System, Riddim Squad, Aruba Red and many more.

The Saturday line-up begins at noon and features Julian Marley, Luciano, Gappy Ranks, Tippa Irie, The Skints and others.

And on Sunday, it's the turn of Benjamin Zephaniah, Vincent Nap, Horace Martin, Michael Prophet and more, from noon.

Adult day passes are £40 for Friday and Saturday, £30 for Sunday.
