Reggae giant, Capleton now refered to as King Shango, landed at the Harare International Airport, Zimbabwe yesterday afternoon and was impressed with the reception he received from Zimbabwean fans.
Fans arrived at the airport in their numbers as early as 11am in buses provided by Red Rose Entertainment, the organisers of the Capleton shows.
The Rastafarian community in Zimbabwe, which had a choir on standby, came in their numbers and chanted reggae tunes while waiting for Capleton to touch down.
The reception area at the airport was a sight to behold as it was swarmed with fans clad in Rastafarian regalia, emblazoned with Capleton’s image.
Upon arrival, he was taken to a Prado and the fans insisted that the Red Rose organisers open up the windows so they could get a clearer view of the long-awaited musician.
He was then taken to his hotel accompanied by his band members.
Capleton is the 11th reggae/dancehall star to visit Zimbabwe in recent years after the likes of Luciano, Maxi Priest, Sizzla, Sean Paul, Beenie Man, King Sounds and most recently, T.O.K.
Today, King Shango will visit some of the Passa Passa venues in Mufakose and fans will be given a chance to have a photo shoot with the celebrity.
Promoters Red Rose have said that only those with advance tickets to the New Year’s show will be allowed to partake in the photo shoot.
