First up, Jury Selection for Buju Banton's Retrial

With hardly enough time to celebrate his Grammy win for "Best Reggae Album" last night, Buju Banton is now back to the dreaded trial.


Jury selection is scheduled to begin first thing on Monday in Tampa Florida. There was a jury deadlock in the first trial in September now Buju will not only return to court for a retrial but will have to answer to two new charges.

Congrats to Buju Banton on Winning the Grammy's 2010 "Best Reggae Album" Awards for "Before the Dawn"

On the eve of his return to court Buju Banton has been awarded the "Best Reggae Album" Grammy Award. This is Buju Banton's Fifth Nomination, but first win. He has edged other great nominees such as Gregory Isaacs, Bob Dylan and Sly & Robbie, Andrew Tosh and Lee Scratch Perry for the win.

SAD: Stars of the Famed UK Reggae Band UB40 Now Face Bankruptcy


Five original members of the highly acclaimed and ground breaking British reggae band UB40 are now facing bankruptcy, according to a U.K. report.
It is reported that Liquidators are currently chasing Robin Campbell, Brian Travers, Terence Wilson, Norman Hassan and James Brown as part of an investigation into their finances.

Some Parents Fear BBC's Patois Talking and Reggae Singing "Rastamouse" is Bad For Their Kids

"Rastamouse", a BBC created animated crime fighting dreadlocked mouse that speaks Jamaican patois and sings Reggae music has come under fire by some parents in the UK. Some fear that "Rastamouse" promotes stereotype and encourages their children to use slangs.

Grim News for Buju Banton and his Defence Team

Yesterday, the Middle District of Florida Court ruled that Buju Banton will now answer to four charges and not two, when he returns to court on Monday February 14th.  This is a huge blow to Banton and his defence team who sought to have the new indictments thrown out.

Third World Band, along with Tarrus Riley, Dean Fraser and Tessanne Chin will perform at The Palmyra Foundation's Fundraising event on Friday, February 11, 2011.  The event, which was originally scheduled for November 5, 2010, was postponed due to a tropical storm.

DeScribe Teams up With Fellow Jewish Reggae Star Matisyahu for new Single "Pure Soul"

Recording artist DeScribe has released his new hype dancehall vibe single "Pure Soul," which features fellow Jewish reggae artist Matisyahu. The track is Produced by Springs, "Pure Soul" will be the first single off DeScribe's highly anticipated EP, which drops June 2011. The proceeds from the song will benefit the non-profit organization The Friendship Circle.

Kevin MacDonald the director of Bob Marley's upcoming film intends to tell   a very intimate story about the Reggae legend. 


"He's universally revered and looked up to as an inspiration. But we've never seen anything that gets to the root of who he is as a man," says Kevin Macdonald "This is going to tell an intimate story of who he is the context of the time and the time of slavery."

Bob Marley Could Finally Become a Jamaican National Hero

Although some may say it is a worthy acknowledgement that is long overdue; Bob Marley could soon become a National Hero of Jamaica. It is a honor that Olivia Babsy Grange, a member of the Jamaican Government said the Reggae legend is well deserving of and she is willing to advocate for it.
