Third World Band, along with Tarrus Riley, Dean Fraser and Tessanne Chin will perform at The Palmyra Foundation's Fundraising event on Friday, February 11, 2011. The event, which was originally scheduled for November 5, 2010, was postponed due to a tropical storm.
The annual event fundraising event, which will take place at the newly completed Palmyra Resort and Spa in Montego Bay, Jamaica, will feature a weekend of activities to include a beach concert on Friday, February 11, 2011 and a Benefit Dinner and Dance on Saturday, February 12, 2011 with a performance from American Idol Winner Ruben Studdard. Proceeds from both events will go toward the purchase of books for 4 and 5 year old Jamaican school children for the 2011/2012 school year. Since the inception of the Foundation in 2007, more than 80 international volunteers have helped provide 72,000 books to 15,000 children in 80 schools across Jamaica's 14 parishes. To date, the Palmyra Foundation has donated books for over US$400,000.
Cat Coore remarks, "It takes a Village to raise a child. The Palmyra Foundation has become a part of a village that believes in giving children an opportunity. Third World Band is honored to be a part of the fundraising efforts with our performance in Montego Bay. It is our duty to help cultivate the minds of our future lawyers, doctors, politicians, musicians. . . you name it."
