This summer, the world-famous Brixton Academy plays host to Uprising, an exclusive festival celebrating Reggae music's rich and diverse contribution to world music.
Reggae legends Freddy McGregor, Barrington Levy, Cocoa Tea and Stevie Face are set to perform in front of thousands of fans at the O2 Brixton Academy on Saturday 19th June 2010. Organisers of what is billed as the Reggae Event of the Year had a hard time choosing their headliner from the four names that kept on popping up during their research - so they booked all of them!
Uprising will be hosted by entrepreneur, chef, author and TV personality Levi Roots who first came to fame following his appearance pitching his Reggae Reggae sauce on C4 series Dragon's Den. Multi-talented Levi is himself also a Jamaican Reggae artist and due to lend his singing talents to the Uprising stage this year.
Freddy McGregor is an internationally acclaimed, Grammy-nominated singer and songwriter whilst Barrington Levy has not performed in UK for over a decade, though the UK remains dear to his heart, having scored two chart-topping hits in the 80's with Under mi Sensi and Here I come.
Cocoa Tea has been churning out hits for years and his cool-toned, laid back vocals always make him a favourite with Reggae fans worldwide. And last but not least, Stevie Face (In the living years) has been deemed as Reggae's hottest new sensation since the release of his award-winning album Tell it like it is last year, and now has legion of UK fans waiting for him to perform.
These artist's names stand forever in Reggae's great history and have decades of timeless anthems such as…
Freddie McGregor: Big Ship, Push Comes to Shove, I Was Born a Winner, and Just Don't Want to be Lonely.
Barrington Levy: Here I Come, Murderer, She's Mine, Too Experienced, and Under Mi Sensi.
Cocoa Tea: Rikers Island, Lost My Sonia, Tune In, Good Life, and Rocking Dolly.
Stevie Face:Tell It Like It Is and In the Living Years.
And those are just to name a few! Featuring four of Reggae's leading ambassadors, Uprising promises to be a night to be remembered for many years to come.
