Ziggy Marley to play Wellness Festival

Reggae great Ziggy Marley will headline the Wellness & World Music Festival Oct. 9-10 in Desert Hot Springs, it was announced Monday.

The festival is intended to blend aspects of wellness, healthy living and sustainability with world music. It is unknown when tickets go on sale.
Marley will join health/lifestyle personalities; yoga trainers; and best-selling authors such as Rodney Yee, Colleen Saidman Yee and Dr. Steven Gundry, festival promoters said.
“Wellness and world music are a natural combination and the public's appetite for both is huge and rapidly growing,” said Tony Clarke, one of the festival's executive producers and president/CEO of Tresed Ventures LLC. “With this festival, we will create a synergy of the senses.”

Marley, the son of reggae icon Bob Marley, is a five-time Grammy Award winner. His most recent CD, “Family Time,” won a Grammy for Best Musical Album for Children.
Besides his musical achievements, Ziggy Marley founded and heads U.R.G.E. (Unlimited Resources Giving Enlightenment), a nonprofit organization that benefits children's causes in Jamaica and other developing nations.
He also is an active supporter of such children's charity organizations as Little Kids Rock, bringing musical instruments and lessons to children in public schools, and the Room to Read Organization, which provides books to schools in developing countries throughout Asia and Africa.
Marley himself is a practicing vegetarian and organic farmer. He recently licensed a song for a “Yoga Revolution” CD, which, along with promoting the benefits of yoga, music and a healthy lifestyle, generates funds to provide fitness and health education for under served youth.
The Wellness & World Music Festival will be held at Mission Springs Park. Promoters are expecting more than 10,000 people to attend each day.
A portion of the festival's proceeds will go to the Desert Hot Springs' Boys & Girls Club of Coachella Valley.
