Sentencing Date And Time For Buju Banton is Now Set

Buju Banton is expected to know what his sentence will be in June. Banton, born Mark Anthony Myrie is set to be sentenced on Thursday, June 16 at 9:30 a.m. in a Tampa court by Judge James S. Moody Jr.

The Reggae Grammy winner was remanded into custody and had his bail revoked after he was found guilty of conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute cocaine, possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking offense, and using the wires to facilitate a drug trafficking offense. However, he was found not guilty on one charge of attempted possession with the intent to distribute cocaine.

Banton's lawyer, David Markus had filed a motion for bail and a new trial pending his sentencing however, the prosecution has since hit back saying the motion is without merit.

David Rowe, a Jamaican-born lawyer had appeared on WWRL 1600’s ‘Caribbean Corner’ recently, and argued that Buju should have taken a plea deal early in his arrest since the current conviction could land him in jail on 30 years to life.
