Jamaican Reggae Queen to Perform at Zimbabwe’s 30th Independence Anniversary

APA-Harare (Zimbabwe) Jamaican reggae queen Rita Marley is expected to perform at a concert to mark Zimbabwe’s 30th independence anniversary on April 18, according to media reports here on Saturday.

Private radio station Radio VOP quoted Ministry of Information official Anywhere Mutambudzi as saying that plans were advanced to bring Marley and her son Ziggy for the independence concert.

Rita was last in Zimbabwe when her late husband Bob Marley was invited to a freedom concert when the country attained its independence in 1980.

She was part of the group I-Three which backed the legendary Jamaican singer.

This will be the second time this year that the Zimbabwean government will bring in a Jamaican reggae artist to play in the country.

The ministry successfully hosted dancehall icon Sizzla Kalonji in February for President Robert Mugabe’s 86th birthday concert.
