Ghanian Reggae Sensation Rocky Dawuni nominated for NAACP Image Award

Ghanaian reggae star Rocky Dawuni continues to lift his global profile since the release of his critically acclaimed new albumHymns for the Rebel Soul. 

The album has been nominated for the prestigious NAACP Image Awards forOutstanding World Music Album.

The NAACP Image Awards is a multi-cultural awards show celebrating the outstanding achievements and performances of people of color in the arts (television, recording, literature, motion picture and writing & directing), as well as those individuals or groups who promote social justice through their creative endeavors. 

Since the release of the album in May 2010,Hymns for the Rebel Soul has received praise and extensive air plays on international radios.

Two of the songs, African Reggae Feverand Download the Revolution were subsequently featured on EA Sports’ FIFA World Cup and FIFA Soccer 2010 video games which have sold millions worldwide. 

The Afro Roots Reggae singer has also graced various stages around the world including the Vatican sponsored JOSPFest in Rome, WE Day in Canada and the recent Freedom Awards with Jason Mraz. 

Also nominated in the same category are Oyo by Angelique Kidjo, The Imagine Project by Herbie Hancok, The Sound of Sunshine by Michael Franti and VOCAbulariesby Bobby McFerrin. 

The 42nd NAACP Image Awards will be held on 4th March, at a yet to be announced venue in the United States, and will be telecasted live on the FOX channel. 

The NAACP Image Awards has 53 competitive categories in the fields of motion picture, television, recording and literature.
